Traveling to this game no-one would have had much money on any play taking place. However, it seemed that Mortimer West End had avoided the worst of the showers and apart from one which delayed the start and reduced the match to 35 overs per side they stayed away for the rest of the afternoon as well. MWE won what appeared to be an important toss and unsurprisingly put T&T in to bat. However, the pitch played remarkably well and the wetness of the run ups gave the bowlers problems. David Withington and Jamil got the T&T innings off to a steady start, the first wicket going down in the 8th over for 30 when David chipped a simple catch to mid-on. This soon became 42-2 but this had all prefaced a very good century partnership between Mark Mason (62no) and James Codd (44) which was scored at an increasing rate. The icing was put on the cake by Mike Toyer who scored a very quick 22no to take T&T through to what looked a very challenging 183-3. Needing over five an over from the start the pressure was on the MWE batsman. The dismissal of Keep in the first over didn't help and whilst the T&T bowlers found wickets hard to come by they were able to keep a tight lid on the scoring, the fifty not coming up until the 20th over. Simon Noble scored a very good 53 but was not helped by his partner, Hurley, who ran one-short on seven occasions. This was not to prove significant, however, as despite some strong late hitting by Ram Patel MWE ended up 35 short of the T&T total. A win in the millennium league then but will the defeat against Purley make the rest of these games academic from the point of view of winning the competition?
