Theale & Tilehurst vs Old Basing 7th September 2003

On a very flat looking pitch both teams were keen to bat and the coin came down in Old Basing's favour. Brown and Turner opened the batting and instantly took the initiative as they found the boundary regularly. Rags yorked Brown and Turner drove Bob to cover to leave Old Basing 67-2. However, this was the preface to a very fine hundred by Dane and a significant partnership of 162 between him and Such. Despite a flurry of late wickets (including Rog's 200th wicket for the club) Old Basing set an imposing target of 266 for T&T to chase. Following on from another excellent Sue tea and a presentation cake to Mikey O in his last game before moving to America T&T set off in pursuit. Things initially looked good as James and Rog put on 41 for the 1st wicket inside nine overs (in the course of his 17 Rog brought up his 1000 runs for the club to ensure an expensive evening in the bar). However, the least said about the next 18 overs of batting by T&T is probably for the better. The outcome of this was a score of 120-9 with 13 overs of the game remaining, defeat looked imminent. With the carefree attitude of the condemned man Bob and Fingers decided to play some shots and enjoy themselves while they lasted. As it was they lasted for some time and inside 10 overs had registered a fifty partnership and set a new 10th wicket partnership record in friendly cricket for T&T. With only three overs to go Bob and Fingers reconvened and decided that having come so far it would be a shame to throw the game away at the end and blocked out the remaining balls to secure an unlikely draw.
