Having struggled to take wickets recently the obvious choice on winning the toss was to bowl first and chase on what looked and proved to be a very flat batting surface.

When Mo uprooted Leverett's off stump with the first ball of the match and this was soon followed by Chris bowling Matt Vines we to leave the score at 15-2 it looked like could be in business. However, Renton had come in to face the second ball of the innings and had hit two fours in the remainder of the first over. This was a better indicator of what was to come than the two early wickets had been. In an innings which featured 22 fours and 5 sixes Renton went on to make a chanceless 160 not out.

The chance for T&T was to take wickets at the other end and Chris in his most impressive bowling spell of the season looked the most likely. Having dismissed Vockins with a fine yorker in his next over he had the newcomer Baker dropped. This proved to be an expensive miss with Baker going on to score 64 and the pressure taken off Renton by having a higher order batsman still with him.

Nettlebed went on to make 290 in their 45 overs and the chances of successfully chasing this were slim. The run rate in the early part of the reply was up with the rate but the problem was keeping wickets in hand, four going down by the time the score had reached 70.

At this point Phil and Mike came together in a partnership of 116 as both played very good shots, particularly on the drive, and ran well and started to shift the pressure back on to Nettlebed a bit. However, when Phil went caught behind trying to keep up with the rate the disappointing aspect was that we were unable to close out the game as a draw, the last five wickets going down for the addition of only five runs.
