Theale & Tilehurst vs Pinkney's Green 19th June 2004

Well, this week deserves a report. It started with the toss and Pinkney's won. 10 minutes later a decision was made and they elected to bat first. They came out guns blazing. Their opener hitting an excellent 91 but eventually being bowled by Nayab, which turned out to be a great breakthrough. The other opener either didn't know what one was or was physically unable to play an offside shot, either way, we stuffed the leg side with fielders and were able to keep his run rate down. Sadly the number 3 was a much better bat and batted well, notching up 70 before being caught in the deep by Raj.

The only other notable event was a superb catch at deep long off by Ian Reeves. Then again having seen the size of his hands, it's not surprising the ball never came out. Rags bowled a brilliant spell to keep the runs down later on in the game but fortunately Doc was on the other end to make the game more interesting.

Pinkney's managed to knock up a monster total of 245 in their 45 overs. At one stage it was looking like much more than that.

Things didn't look good when they elected to take the old ball and proceeded to bowl with 2 ~~spinners~~ slow bowlers. They also posted 4 men on the boundary. They were clearly defending their total and playing very negatively. This did provide enough space for Raj to take singles and hit the occasional lusty blow, the 6 coming off his 4th ball as opposed to his first, finally ending up on 31. Phil then continued the good batting finally being caught in the deep on 64, he was joined by Tim who scored a good looking 40.

Nayab needed to go early so Chef put him in at number 5. He repaid the ~~confidence~~ kindness and hit a 4 off with 4 balls to go to bring up his 50 and win the game, he was ably assisted by Spike who scored 37 to break the 6th wicket partnership that has stood at 46 for far too long. This was Nayab's first 6, his first 50 and Spike's top League score. A good day was had by all, except maybe Doc.

We managed to get 248 for 5 and never really took any risks, the score just ticked along. Admittedly Chef was pacing up and down and trying to convince Shahid that Chef should be next but everyone else was calm.

We move on to an average of 26, Pinkney's to an average of 20.8 and Ruislip need to win by 29 or more to take the lead from us.
