Today was a big game. Both at the top of the table with an average of 26. As I stepped out of the car I heard a clang of metal. It turned out to be my golden bollocks, I couldn't put a foot wrong.
We had a new keeper in the shape of Alex Moore. He hasn 't played since last year and when he pulled out dirty whites, we knew they had formed their own species.
I was also a little concerned as Mike and Ian hadn't turned up yet. I found out that they had been on a tour round Ruisliup (you'd assume that's where they played) and various other locations before finally finding us. I was very pleased to see him turn up as Ian is turning into our lucky mascot.
It didn't start off that well, losing the toss. Then losing the two openers early on, things looked bad. However a good recovery from Raj & Alex and finally some lusty blows from Doc, they lead us to 170. One noticeable thing was how poor the fielding was. However one highlight was that there was a very young child, who, whenever he fielded the ball passed it to this big lad who then through it into the keeper. I say threw, more like girly shot putting. Anyway later on in the innings the young lad fielded the ball but the fat lad wasn't about, so like a bullet he threw it to the keeper. To this day, I don't know why the fat lad didn't pass it to the young lad to throw.
So after lunch we came out and struck in the 3rd over. Then Doc picked up a wicket shortly after. Then a ball that was much talked about by all, except me. I came into bowl and the batsman (Wilcox) left the ball, outside off stump, the ball cut back and grazed the off stump. As Doc described it "when a batsmen shoulder arms you and you bowl him, it's better than sex".
Things continued well and every change I made came off, with exception of moving Rags out of 3rd slip and the very next ball would have gone straight down his throat. I even moved Raj out for the miss hit pull from the left hander. The ball went miles into the air and Raj never looked like dropping it, except when he tripped on his hat but fortunately still took it. In fact that was the third bit of outstanding fielding from Raj, not sure what he's been on but I hope he continues to take it.
The skipper then came in at 7 and shut up shop. Fortunately this meant I could crowd the bat. The bowlers did the rest.
So we got 29 points and restricted RV to 5. This puts us clear at the top and gives us a nice little cushion.
It was a fantastic display of teamwork with absolutely everyone chipping in. Great to see.
