This year's club day fixture proved to be the reverse of last year's one sided game going down to the last over of the match.

Eddie and Phil went out for the toss and about 15 minutes later came back with the President having finally decided to bat first. Mo opened the bowling for the Chairman's XI and it was the fifth over of the innings that sparked the game to life. Micky was bowled by the fourth ball of the over and then with the final ball Mo had Jamil caught at mid-on, the bowlers were certainly relieved at this instant dismissal but the top order of the Chairman's XI were instantly thinking ahead to him getting his revenge with the ball.

With Eddie and Ed at the crease the Chairman immediately opted for the slower bowlers, Fingers initially kept it tight and then Cameron came on and reaped the benefit of the batsman starting to try and force the pace. The early scoring had been dominated by the President himself, he had scored 47 of the first 52 runs, and he went on to a fine fifty sharing the largest partnership of the game with Ed.

The bowling continued to be tight and the only other significant contribution with the bat came from Osman. The final total of 140-8 could have been seen as being 20-30 under par but at tea the Chairman's XI was recognising that it was likely to be a tough run chase.

The difficulty of the run chase was exacerbated by Jamil's opening spell during which he took four wickets, all clean bowled, and the bowling of Micky who was gaining some prodigious swing. Dennis managed to survive the opening spells and from the score of 57-5 formed a very useful partnership of 55 with Chef. Also playing very well for the Chairman's XI was extras who was steadily accumulating runs in the background.

When Chef was dismissed by Rags and Jamil gained full revenge on Mo the Chairman's XI still needed 28 runs with only 3 wickets left. Seven were still needed when Bob walked out to join Dennis. However, Eddie had banked on bowling the Chairman's XI out and with two overs left had bowled out all his front line bowlers. This allowed Bob to survive and Dennis to finally score the winning runs.

This was an excellent game of cricket played between two very even sides, the difference in the end being the number of extras conceded, the Chairman's XI conceding only two whilst the President's XI conceded 41.

Dennis was presented with the President's man of the match award with the President himself deservedly winning the Chairman's award.
