Report by Chef
No alcohol + No life = Full Report
Started off with losing the toss & Stratfield put us in to bat. I was going to open with Eddie & Rog, however Rog was late and chose not to open, so I opened with Dennis. "Clang". That was the sound of my golden balls knocking for the first time that day. Dennis went on to score 84 before edging a ball through to the keeper. He was ably accompanied by Rags who scored 36. Then Nayab chipped in at the end with 27 increasing his average even more. Any good captain would put him higher.
As it got to 200 Chef was wondering when\if to retire. He was pacing around like a cat on a hot tin roof. Should I, shouldn't I. If you can't stand the heat, don't be a Chef!
Anyway he decided to declare after much discussion with all of his team, any spectators and a few of the oppo! So we declared on 217 off 42 overs, giving us 48 overs to bowl them out.
After Tea things didn't start off well, both opening bowlers got spanked for at least 1 four every over. They were 92 for 1 off 16 overs. You could smell the fear coming from Chef's trousers. Then to make things worse Dennis had decided that 84 was enough of a contribution and left the field, not wanting to play anymore. Ian dived in as backup keeper and continued to dive around and generally put in a good performance, including a catch off Chef.
Then came The Somerset Express & Rags, who tied up runs like something out of pulp fiction. They should have been arrested for strangulation. The runs stopped and the pressure built, the wickets started falling. Doc taking an excellent running catch in the deep, making a lot of ground to get there, one hundred and six metres if Doc is to be believed.
Chef moved Brian to mid wicket for Rags, knowing full well the batsman was a legside larry and "Clang". The ball was hit straight to him and he jumped up and snaffled it. The smell of fear was decreasing, although the stains had left their mark. Rags ended up with 2 and Stu with 4.
Then "Clang". Chef decided that although Rags was bowling superbly, it was time for a change. So seeing the batsmen at the crease, Chef donned his deerstalker and took out his shotgun. Glen Close couldn't have done a better job at bunny hunting. The pot was on, the stock was in and it was now time to serve. Chef started his spell on 21 off 4 for 0 and finished with 23 off 6.3 for 3. Top cooking.
Another 30 points and it is now ours to throw away. My one concern is that our Lucky Mascot is unavailable next week....oh god we're going to have to win on talent next week!
