With James still injured and Phil away on winning the toss the only decision was to field first despite a flat looking track and the hot weather.

Things started well with Mo removing both openers before the score reached thirty. This was a far more disciplined performance in the field than had been managed by T&T recently and at no stage did Purley really cut free. At 111-4 there was a chance that we could get right through their batting but Bentley and Nash put on a controlled 70 for the 5th wicket to guarantee Purley a total that they could defend.

Arguably 206 was a little below par for batting first but Purley do have an ace up their sleeve when it comes to bowling teams out. Andy and Micky formed a brand new opening partnership and after Micky was bowled by Nash Andy and Jamil seemed to be doing a good job of seeing off the openers.

However, when Andy was bowled off his pads by Roy in his sixth over things swiftly turned in Purley's favour. Mike was caught in the gully off the fifth ball of the same over and Phil was lbw to a yorker first ball (with us having just been discussing that the one ball you didn't want first up from Roy was a straight yorker). Bad became worse when Jamil went caught behind in the next over from Nash and then Roy came back and completed his hat-trick to make it 39-6.

At 52-7 it looked all over but Tim and Mo obviously hadn't read Purley's script. The openers had finished their spells and the change bowling didn't prove to be anywhere near as challenging. Initially it just seemed like a little bit of fun but as the partnership went past 50 and the score then went past 125 things threatened to get interesting and another 5 overs would have made it very interesting. However, Tim was bowled for a hard hit 39 and unfortunately the last two wickets weren't able to keep Mo company long enough as he carried on finding the boundary and in the process made his first 50 for the club.
