Theale & Tilehurst vs Berkshire County Sports 2 14th August 2004

BACK

Report by Chef

I've realised that the reason I am so lucky on the pitch is because I am so unlucky off it.  I have managed to lose 10 tosses on the trot.  We did win the toss last time we played BCS, however that's because I was not playing.  So after the inevitable donation to BCS, we were put in to bat.

It was a lovely summers day.  The light was glistening through the trees.  The birds were singing and children were playing joyfully in the park.  It was a great day for a game of cricket.  In fact the whole village came out to watch.

At 23 overs we were 89 for 1.  At 24 overs we were 89 for 4.  Collapse doesn't do it justice.  We then lost another shortly after.  Our 170 was looking much more like 150.  However we do bat down to number 11.  Spike and Brian put on a valuable 31.  Spike the only good thing that came out of our middle order today but then the last three wickets went for 0. We ended up with 141, just short of another batting point.  It also meant we gave them 3 overs to reach the total.

After tea and a brief but inspiring speech from the captain, the likes of which can only compare to Dennis's tour speech, we took to the field.  The speech went something like "we can win this but we must take our catches and must support our bowlers".

It started off well with a wicket in the 2nd over, Os bowling the opener.

Neill was relentlessly taking wickets from one end.  At the other end Os was not firing on all cylinders.  That said he still managed to take 2 wickets.

I did make one mistake in the game though.  At 97 for 6 I could smell carrots.  I fancied a stew.  Unfortunately I didn't bring any of my hunting kit and decided to let the rabbits die of old age.  That did actually happen as while the batsmen were running a single one stopped just outside the crease.  It was staring at the car lights as Os threw the ball at the stumps and hit.  It was possibly the strangest dismissal I've seen for a long time.  He just stopped running, it was like he died of old age.

Anyway we managed to bowl them out for 118 and pick up another 28 points.  This means we need 10 points or Ruislip need to lose 10 points in the next 3 games.  COME ON YOU PINKNEYS you can beat em!

(It would also be interesting if the Cavaliers fail to put out a side on the last game of the season.  Excuse me while I go and make a few calls!)
