Theale and Tilehurst vs Farley Hill 26th September 2004

The final game of the season and an early start against Farley Hill. The early arrivals from Farley apologised for the fact that they only had nine but at least we would have a game - as it emerged nine was over optimistic and Farley could only muster seven.

With the agreement that T&T would provide three substitute fielders Farley won the toss and elected to take to the field. Chilly went early and Robert Heap then took a spectacular diving one handed catch to dismiss Fingers. Wickets continued to fall regularly, including Chilly taking the first of two substitute catches to dismiss Raj, and it was not until the fifth wicket that a partnership of substance was put together between Dopey and Meady.

When Harvey returned to dismiss them in consecutive overs the chance of batting Farley out of the game had gone and the lower order had to scamper for what they could get. No-one was more pleased than Bob that they managed to bat out the overs giving him his second DNB of the weekend and thus guaranteeing Micky the Duck Cup. Micky was nearly able to have a late say in the award taking a catch to dismiss Mo but it wasn't enough to get Bob to the middle.

Robert Heap and Brian Smith opened up for Farley and were tested by some good early bowling from Bob, Micky and Mo. It was the 11th over before the first wicket fell when Bob deceived Smith with a slower ball which he drove to Spike at cover. Heap and Harvey added 38 for the second wicket but when Heap went stumped and then Harvey and Coney went in consecutive balls Farley's chances were gone. It was left to Stephen to take the final wicket of the season to close out victory by 72 runs.

Thanks go to Farley for turning up with a reduced side so that the season didn't finish with a cancellation and to all the T&T boys who showed what a great attitude they have by happily joining in with sub fielding to make for a decent game. Now time for post season depression to set in.
