Theale & Tilehurst Under 15 XI vs Sulhamstead and Ufton 15th May 2005

BACK

Report by Fingers

Finally the T&T u15s’ season got underway. On a beautiful Sunday morning Sulhamstead won the toss and elected to bowl. At colt’s level I don’t think there are any theories about taking advantage of early dew it’s more a case of not wanting the embarrassment of being bowled out cheaply first up.

Ashley went in the first over but then Phil and Louis put on 64 for the 2nd wicket, Louis playing fluently particularly off his legs. When he departed to Benham Ian came to the crease with his new blue hair, not quite as blue though as his language when he was bowled 2nd ball. It was left to Phil and Antonio (playing his best innings for the club so far) to get the score up to 107 which was perhaps 15-20 under par.

Bowana and Louis opened the bowling for T&T and both took a wicket early. The bowling was switched round regularly and wickets continued to fall. The main danger was when Benham came in to bat at six. He struck four boundaries and threatened to win the game quickly for S&U. However, once he was dismissed the main danger was gone and the final wicket fell in the 19th over to leave T&T winners by 15 runs.

There are likely to be tougher games ahead but it is always good to get off to a winning start.

T&T 107-3 (P Legace 33no, L Jarvis 33, A Villa 24no)

S&U 92 all out (A East 3-27, A Villa 2-21)
