Report by Chef
So Micky went out to toss, why? I don't know, he should save himself some time and just offer it to the other team anyway they elected to bowl first. Early indications was that there was a little bounce in this wicket but we got off to a decent start except Micky going in the 4th over with a soft dismissal to silly mid on.
Phil and Eddie took up the reigns but Phil was Bowled with the score at 68. Chilli and Mr Ellis then came together and started to increase the run rate at the 28th over. They managed to get to the Presidents legendary target of 100 off 30 with wickets in hand. Things were moving on nicely but it was here where it all started to go wrong. At a time when we should have accelerated the next 7 overs went for just 18 runs and 3 wickets, with Eddie finishing on 68. It was then left to Osman (13 runs in 14 balls), Rags(31 in 24) and Chef (9 in 4) to raise the pace and get us to a respectable total. We managed to scrape to 180 ably assisted by 21 extras which was felt to be about 20 runs short.
However there was life in the pitch and it was a total we should be able to defend. The two openers scored quickly with some edges going for 4 and some cross batted shots but Chef managed to get the breakthru with Cumner caught behind of a spitting ball. Chef got another to rear up at the other opener who tried to pull it and lofted it to Meady who promptly dropped it. Fortunately it wasn't costly as Osman stole the wicket off Chef with the exact same delivery and shot, but wisely putting Chilly underneath as opposed to Meady.
Rags came on to bowl and if the saying "the bad ball gets a wicket", Rags should have bagged all the remaining wickets. Apparently his bad balls aren't bad enough as he didn't manage to pick up any wickets. However when Chilli came on at the other end he proved that the bad ball does indeed take wickets as Stevens went to pull a wide short delivery and just spooned it up to Ian who gladly snaffled it.
Hudson and Gott then put on a good partnership which Chef managed to separate getting Gott caught behind with another lifting ball. It was the following over when Chef also removed Hudson who edged it straight into the hands of the President off another lifting ball. The President took the regulation slip catch and it brought to the crease the big frame of Hondre.
Chilli was then able to take another wicket of Thomas with an LBW with the batsman playing across the line. The score was 145 for 6 but unfortunately Dawes and Hondre put us to the sword and led MWE home with 3 overs to spare.
It was a painful feeling to lose a game that we could have won and not a feeling I wish to repeat in the near future. Next week is Ruislip Victoria who were promoted with us last year. They have had a mixed start to the season. We have to improve our batting and bowling if we are to dominate this division which we are more than capable of doing.
