Report by Chef
Micky continues proving he is a weird tosser, in that he has won two on the trot now. Micky opted to bat (much to my disapproval...but at the end of the day that showed me!). So we set off with Eddie and Rog. I'm not entirely sure what Rog had trod in earlier, but it worked. For the first 10 overs he swished and swiped, edged and scuffed and an occasional bludgeon. Eddie was dismissed, caught in slip, with the one edge he had. Clearly not showing as much luck as Rog. Micky shortly followed first ball, absolutely intent on keeping hold of last years Duck Cup. Ed followed shortly caught behind trying to cut a ball that was too close to him.
It was at this point Rog knuckled down and started to play good cricket. It was also from this point that he had a chanceless innings. He took the bowlers on with some lovely clean hitting and ably supported by Speedo who helped Rog get most of the strike. Phil then going for boundaries later on in his innings. Rog was finally bowled on 98, the top score for the 2nd XI, two short of his ton but 18 runs more than his high score for the club, with only one lost ball and a record 4th wicket partneship for the 2nd XI
This brought to the crease Rags who is in fine form at the moment. his 28 ball 40 and Os's 18 ball 19 took us to 249.
After tea Micky opted to keep the old ball and opened with Rags and Indy. At this point it is worth mentioning that it was the hottest day this summer at 30 degrees C. Indy opened the bowling with a Sleeveless Fleece. What on earth were you thinking Indy? Incidentally should you wish to buy one you can visit our shop here. It also seemed that Indy didn't want to upset the grounds man and in his 3 overs, only 3 balls actually hit the ground, the rest were full tosses. However that said he still managed to get a wicket with Helmore pulling a full toss to square leg caught by an excellent one handed catch by Arslan.
Arslan was then brought on to bowl and with his first ball took the other opener. After the 11th over Micky took the new ball and brought on Os and Chef. This then brought on the run out of Wood. The ball went to Micky who seemed to stare blankly like a rabbit in the headlights when everyone cried "Bowlers End". Micky threw and it was good to see the Sunday keeper behind the stumps. What happened next was by no means text book stuff but he managed to bundle the ball onto the wickets. Mr Choules confessed that he had never collected a ball as badly and still got away with it before.
Osman and Chef were brought on to bowl. Osman with his headband looking like something out of Karate Kid. With another display of accurate bowling Os and Chef mopped up the tail and picked up the next 6 wickets for just 14 runs. Lovely bowling "Daniel Son".
We managed to pick up a valuable 35 points to help our title challenge. It also proved batting first was a great decision. We have a week off next week but face Knowl Hill the following week.
