There was a strange feeling of disorientation at the start of this game; Cat had lost the toss and we were batting first for the first time this season. Several of us didn't really seem to know what to do.
Chilly and Cat opened the batting and got the innings off to a steady start against good opening bowling by Kenny Allsobrook and Jason Searancke. The first wicket fell in the twelfth over when Chilly was bowled and the second wicket soon followed when Jamil got a leading edge to mid on. With the rain there had been Thursday night and Friday morning there was some assistance for the bowlers that they were exploiting well.
The T&T innings was not able to get away until the last eleven overs of the innings. At 34 overs the score was 99-4 but in the last 11 overs there were 105 runs scored. This was mainly due to Cat who had compiled a patient 78 and DFS who scored his second half century of the season against MWE with a well struck 70no including 9 fours and 1 six.
At tea we would have settled for 204 but with hindsight the last ten overs had also shown that the pitch had eased a little and we would have benefited from having a few more.
MWE have a very strong top four and our challenge was to get through that with enough runs still needed to put pressure on the bottom half of the order. This didn't happen. Jason Searancke and Dave Hamer put on 40 for the first wicket before Hamer launched a shell at mid off which was well taken by Cat.
The main partnership of the innings was between Searancke and Simon Noble who took the score through to 122 before Chilly made the breakthrough. T&T were never really able to put pressure on the MWE innings by restricting the scoring rate and when Bray joined the innings he continued the innings at a fluent pace with Searancke anchoring the innings.
In the end MWE eased home by 7 wickets with 3 overs to spare. This means that MWE close the gap on us in second place and it looks likely to be a battle between the two of us for that position for the remainder of the season.
