Theale & Tilehurst Friendly XI vs BCS 22nd April 2006

BACK

Report by Chef

Well it was time for Chef's annual appearance as captain.  Some things never change and the loss of the toss came as no surprise but as luck would have it their captain chose to bat anyway.  The game started out in a bit of controversy with Chef being warned for running on the pitch by Graham Rush but it was agreed by everyone (including their batsman) that it was not in the danger zone.  Bob was bowling well and had the first breakthrough.  Chef then followed with later with two wickets both from awful balls.  It was then Bob bowling when further controversy hit.  Peter Drain hit drove a lovely full toss for 4.  The shout of no-ball came from Graham Rush for being above waist high.  Now as it was Bob arguably he would be classed as a slow bowler but the law of physics says that if you drive the ball, it is below waist height.  Whilst we weren't bothered about the no ball and didn't argue, we obviously used this opportunity to take the piss.  Starting with Eddie in slip with spec savers references followed by Chef noting the batsman was an unemployed midget (No job, too small) and finally finishing with Rags stating that it was only above waist height if the batsman was lying down.  It was the last comment that saw Graham walk off the pitch.  Anyway the game progressed and thanks to the good innings of Drain and the youngster King they managed to reach 123, unfortunately 2 men short.

After Tea we loaned them a fielder.  Two quick wickets and their backs were up but Spike and Rags managed to steady the ship with a decent 45 partnership, then Paul continued following Rags dismissal.  Imran then put on a quick 15 until he was bowled.  Earlier in the game Tim dropped a catch of Paul and I don't know if Paul took it badly but the run out between them suggested he had.  Either that or Paul over estimated Tim's speed......by about 20 yards.  Chef came in, hit a four and was plumb LBW pulling across the line, again some things never change.  It was Paul and Arslan who saw it to the end.  Considering they were 2 men down it was a close game.  Everyone got a bat and or bowl.  Chef's 2nd XI captain winning streak continues, some things never change.
