It was a roasting day and it was the Woodley carnival so it wasn't going to be the most comfortable cricketing conditions we have ever played in. It was hard to know what to do if we won the toss. Knowing that Woodley is a batting track and the outfield is very fast it is tempting to bat first, and that was my view in the car on the way up. However reaching the pitch it looked a little green, particularly on a length and there was a bit of wind. I think I would have bowled first but Micky listened to my advice which was to lose the toss and let Woodley choose, as I made a whole season out of doing that. Woodley put us in to bat.
There was an initial drama at the start of the match with Eddie furiously looking for his box. You have to suspect Rog in circumstances like that, as that's where the rest of Eddie's kit normally ends up when it's gone missing. However it turns out he had already put his box in. I'm not sure why we take on these youngsters who are so wet behind the ears, I think we need a bit of age and experience opening.
Eddie and Rog got us off to a great start with a 110 partnership for the first wicket. Eddie cutting like lumberjake and Rog driving like a Maclaren. Micky then weighed in with a 50......please insert your own joke here......
He was accompanied by Nehal and the pair of them did well to turn two's into one's but again put a good partnership together. It was then left to the middle order to slap it around a bit to get us to 258 for 6.
There was actually quite a bit of variable bounce and so whilst on a Woodley track this sounds a normal total, it was actually an excellent display of batting.
We started with the old ball and Rog and Nehal managed to make early break throughs. Mo then bowled an excellent spell with three wickets. It was Barraclough and the two Khan's who proved too much for the T&T bowling as we just couldn't get them out.
The game ended in a dull draw......at 21:00 it had also turned into a day night game. Had the England game not been on I think Woodley would have had a much stronger side but hey, that's life.
