Theale & Tilehurst 2nd XI vs IBIS Mapledurham 17th June 2006

On paper we had almost the same team as last week. Last week we scored over 250. Wow, what a difference a week makes.

We lost the toss but like last week it wouldn't have mattered as they put us in to bat and Mickey would have chosen to bat first anyway.

It didn't start out too well with Rog getting a golden. Micky came in and was at full flow, batting very well and regularly scoring boundaries. He and Eddie put on a partnership of 34, Micky and Extra's being the more dominant. Eddie was dismissed (on 1) having attempted to play three shots at one ball

Mo, Nehal and Rags hung around for not many runs, then the rest of the team didn't hang around for not many runs. In fairness IBIS bowled well and fielded well too, taking some good catches. We were out in the 30th over for 86. With IBIS having 60 overs to get 87 we kind of felt that run rate may not play a part in this game.

We went straight back out again and started off very well. There was a bit of life in the pitch and Mo and Chef took early wickets but IBIS were scoring quickly. Micky brought himself on and and straight away bowled Hussaine. He then brought on Nehal who also took a wicket but IBIS were still scoring well. Drury, who had bowled well then started to bat well too. When the game looked all but over (over number 14), Rog was brought on and took two good wickets to continue his good bowling form and gain us an extra point. Alas we had not scored enough and and it was over during the 15th over. Still, we had made good in roads into their attack and had taken all our catches.

We all agreed that was the worst day with the bat that we had ever played in. Next week will bedifferent.
