Theale & Tilehurst 2nd XI vs Bradfield 24th June 2006

BACK

Report by Chef

We turned up for the game at Bradfield with most of us never having played there.  It is a very nice ground, with a great strip and a fantastic outfield.  The outfield is one of the best I've played on in years.

Micky won the toss and elected to bat.  On a good strip with a hard outfield Rog threw the bat about a bit.  Lucky in some cases but great shots in others.  He managed to put on 32 with Eddie, then 32 with Micky who also looked in form until he was Rogered.  Apparently this is the verb to throw your wicket away.

Mike then came in and played some great shots, rode his luck occasionally but batted well with Nehal, then Rags.  Chef was then the last to be caught (Golden Duck) by Atkinson who clearly excellent hands.  T&T ended up on 216 on a good pitch.

We came out after lunch and opted for the old ball.  Rags made an early breakthrough with the dismissal of Crew.  Comber with his unusual grip was next to go.  For those of you not at the ground this can only be described as a reactionary catch by myself.  Fielding at silly mid on he took three steps down the wicket and blasted it out of the middle of the bat.  I'm still not sure how but I dived left (to my weaker hand) and in a Strauss like dive, caught it left handed.  For those of you who were at the ground you'll know that he spooned it up to me at silly mid on with his broken bat.  The only muscles I needed to move to catch it were in my fingers and about 20 blinks of my eye whilst I waited for it to arrive, although it was so easy I could probably have taken it without moving a muscle.  Rog got the other wicket before the new ball was taken.

Allen and North put on a good partnership of 63 until Allen was dismissed.  North continued to bat aggressively and like others before him, somewhat fortunately.  The next wicket to go was yet another piece of excellent fielding by myself.  Anyone else and it would have been an easy run but I dived, slid and threw all in one move to hit the stumps with only one showing......well something like that anyway.

Mo took another two and deservedly ended up taking the top three scorers.  Nehal also joined in at took the 9th wicket with the last ball.  We had just run up short and couldn't quite bowl them out.  Never in danger of losing but weren't in much danger of winning either.  One more game before the fixture turning point.
