Theale & Tilehurst 2nd XI vs MMW 2 15th July 2006

BACK

Report by Chef

Micky having won the toss again chose to bowl.  After a very poor start to the season finally things started to click for Chef when he dismissed the top order but it was once again Honor and Patel who proved difficult to remove.  Honor was by no means his fluent self but rode his luck well before spooning one up to Nehal who took it cleanly without fear of any sightscreens.

Rags continued to bowl well but without luck. Chef was brought back into the attack and 17 runs later was promptly removed.  Rags was brought back on and the break seemed to do him well bowling Dawes for 49.  Mo then took Thomas shortly after but MWE ended on 273.  We fielded poorly and gave at least 30 away in the field which proved costly in the end.

After a fantastic tea Rog and Khadim came out to bat.  After a 15 off 18 balls Rog was dismissed which brought Micky to the crease.  Micky and Khadim batted well with a record partnership of 166 not only breaking the 2nd wicket partnership for the 2nd's but the overall wicket partnership for the 2nds.

It also became apparent that MWE skipper was more of a tinker man than Micky which explains why the game finished at 8:30.

Both were dismissed trying to push on in the last 10 overs.  This brought Rags to the crease who got 17 in 12 balls before the battle of the liars took place.  The liars in question were Rags and Turner.  Rags spooned the ball up and just as Turner was going to catch it, Rags shouted.  Turner caught it and took offence and threw it at Rags back.  Rags, upon returning to the pavilion, claimed that he was calling for a second run, however in most peoples books you don't call for another run shouting "Mine!".  Turner at the end of the game was claiming that he was throwing the ball at the wickets for the run out......yeah right.

Chef came in and with Nehal they threw the bat around.  Chef ending on 30 off 14 balls sadly none of the runs counted as under the pressure he forgot to say "in".  The pair of them scoring 43 in 4 overs but alas it was too little too late.  With a 4 off the last ball we ended up on 253 for 4 just gaining another point for the draw. 2 or 3 more overs would have sealed the victory.

It was an excellent effort and Micky and Khadim's partnership set us up for the valiant attempt.  On a personal note I finally turned up with the bat and the ball, so things look hopeful for next week.
