Theale & Tilehurst 2nd XI vs Bradfield 26th August 2006

An interesting game this one, Bradfield on a run of good form and TnT2's having played a number off games recently well below our potential. The toss was important as there was a fair amount of rain the previous night and skip proved what a good tosser he was and put Bradfield into bat on an interesting wicket.

The Bradfield opening trio started off quite well, taking 63 from only 13 overs whilst losing only 1 wicket - it was also at this point that their troubles began. I mentioned earlier about the wicket being interesting and the ball was popping off a good length if the ball had a bit of pace about it - to be fair it was expected after the rain on the ground the previous night. Once the top 3 had departed, the middle order made hard work of it and subsided to 81 for 5 from 19 and TnT were definately in the ascendency with catches being taken regularly.

Mo bowled well, as usual getting 2 for 37 and good support from Arsalan made scoring difficult. Pawan was brought on from the road end and in amongst the wides contrived to take 3 wickets in his first 3 overs and finished up with 3-18 from 6. Rags at the other end by now was being hard to get away, also bowling well to finish with 2 for 32 from 11. The 9th wicket partnership from Bradfield from the tail enders proved to the middle order what could have been done if they had applied themselves a little better by making a stand of 36 - I dare say Bolton and Bucksey from the way they went about the job in hand should be asking to move up the order. After 45 overs we had held Bradfield to 152 for 9 which could prove a competitive score on a wicket that was not easy to play on and needed application.

TnT's innings started off steadily, myself and Mr Pres had spoke before going in and reckoned if we could get a stand of 40 or over it would allow the others to play their normal game and take the match. The innings started of sedately, with no heroics and by the time we had reached the 14th over the score was 34. What was quite interesting at least for us was the fact that the wicket had quietened down some although I think that if Bradfield had bowlers with some pace they could have caused the same problems we had during their innings with the ball popping a bit. The 15th over saw PK begin to up the scoring rate and get himself into gear after a long run of low scores although falling to one shot too many in the 18th on a score of 46 - a good catch taken by the wicketkeeper Allen whist standing up. Mr Pres a little earlier had retired hurt after pulling a muscle quite badly. Upon PK's dismissal the batters were Micky and Nehal who played the bowling very well - Nehal clobbering a sweet 6 on the way. Mickey on the other hand had one eye on the clouds moving our way and decided to up the tempo before any rain came and robbed us. Both played extremely well with Micky again getting another 50 to end up on an unbeaten 55 with Nehal adding another 31 unbeaten runs to his tally for the season. The target reached in 30.5 overs saw a valuable 28 points for TnT.
