Dear Club Welfare Officer
I would like to bring to your attention an unsavoury incident that happened in Sunday’s game against Reading Lawyers involving one of our players and a young person in their team. It was as early as the second over of the match which was bowled by Baker Jnr for Reading Lawyers; Baker can be no more than 11 or 12 years old and his first delivery was a perfectly reasonable one pitched up outside off stump. Despite this and with scant regard for the youngster’s feelings and well being PK heaved it massively over wide long on for six, he followed this later in the over with another hard hit straight drive for four. Many in the T&T side felt this to be an unnecessary act by PK against the young man when he could have politely played a defensive stroke to the first ball and nodded his respect for a ball well bowled. I apologise if this type of incident does not fall within the remit of your role but I felt it should be brought to your attention.
Fortunately the opposition did not make a fuss about the incident and the game was able to progress smoothly. James and PK both played well against some good bowling from Seymour and Frost and put on a century partnership for the first wicket. PK was the first to go when he was bowled by Frost for 49; there is a strong suspicion that this may have been a second case of jug evasion in the weekend but I am sure that this is not a matter for you as club welfare officer. There was also a feeling that it may have been the cricketing Gods evening things up for what had happened earlier.
When James was caught as square leg off Lake there followed a succession of small partnerships and it looked like we might not reach the score in excess of 200 that had looked certain at one point. Fortunately Osman came in and carried on his excellent Sunday form with a fluent 34no which took the score past 200 in the final over of the innings.
Knowing your appetite I think you would have enjoyed tea, there were some very good home made cakes from Grandma Dixon which after extensive research were deemed to have passed the quality threshold for both Micky and I.
The early part of the Reading Lawyers innings suggested the game could be over quickly as they subsided to 7-3. Do instances of young people bullying older people need to be brought to your attention? If they do there was evidence to suggest that this might have happened when Mo was bowling to Symons, Symons certainly seemed to want to run away when Mo was bowling and was inevitably clean bowled.
However, the game didn’t progress as might have been anticipated and this was due to a very fine innings played by Frost who reached his century just before time was called. He had good partnerships with Cobb and Mullett and we were not able to get through to the lower order in time to try and force victory.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused to you by bringing the matter involving PK and they young opposition bowler to your attention. Hopefully it is something that can be quickly resolved and forgotten.
Yours sincerely,
Fingers
