Report by Chef
As Peter Kay once said "It's spitting!!!!". Actually it was a little damp just before the game, there was a short dribble in the middle but other than that we got away with the weather compared to most. Although I doubt it was raining over at Mortimer West End after the ray of light that was their match report last week.
Meady won the toss and elected to bowl. We then discussed the conditions and the summary was fairly straight forward "It was gonna be difficult for whoever batted first.....tough luck". Well it was a bit like that but the Welfare Officer told me not to quote verbatim.
Before the game got underway Colin complained to Skip that he may not be able to get through the first over because of his knee, this was followed by the comforting words from the skipper "well you're gonna have to bowl so might as well start now".
It wasn't until the 8th over when Colin struck, followed by Chef the next over, again followed by another Wicket maiden from Colin. Colin then took another wicket in his 6th over and with figures of 6 overs, 4 maidens 3 runs for 3 wickets, his knee troubles seemed fine. Agyz then came on to take a further three wickets whilst Chris was taking part in a Matterson's advert MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMattersons.
Rag's then joined in and a suicidal run out finished it off. Having lost one of their players, they asked if they could have a substitute bat for them. Having spotted most of their first team turn up, Meady opted for the sensible approach of declining. Though in fairness they were very polite about it.
They were bowled out for 83, with Colin finishing on 13.2 overs 9 maidens, 17 runs for 3. Top spell from an injured colt.
With rumbling tummies we cursed the skinny Meady as he opted to play on before Tea. Eddie and Rog went out and the scoreboard ticked over nicely but then Eddie was bowled. This brought Meady to the crease who was clearly inspired by the opener from last week taking 24 balls to get off the mark. However the difference was his first scoring shot was an excellent cover drive. Whilst this drudgery (just kidding) went on Rog at the other end was playing on his luck, being dropped and then caught off a no ball.
We got to the 16th over when Tea should have been taken with a score of 51 and Woodley kindly opted to continue. It only took 4 more overs before we managed to reach 88 for 1 thanks to 5 wides. Rog ending up on 40 not out. Rog it was off 61 balls, so you can stop asking me now!!!!!
Well when the game finished I moved the quickest I had all day in order to catch another Tea at Theale and what a shrewd move this turned out to be. We then sat and watched the second innings of the 1st XI. Amazingly Woodley is not far away but it was a damn sight hotter than Theale.
