Theale & Tilehurst Under 13s vs Purley 19th July 2007

This was the second of the Serious Cricket sponsored West Berkshire League matches.

Purley won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a slow start against tight opening bowling from Harry and Jordan. Harry went wicketless but Jordan picked up a wicket when James took a juggling catch at fine leg to dismiss Florew. 19-1 off ten overs may not have been a great position but it looked pretty good compared to 25-7 off fourteen overs. Michael took 3 quick wickets in a superb spell of three overs, Jordan ran out Woodhouse with a direct hit from third man and then Michael took a great reflex catch in the gully off Luke's bowling to dismiss Ling.

Hillier was able to hold the innings together in the last few overs and as the bowling was shared round extras started to chip in. The Purley innings closed on 58-8 whick looked an eminently gettable total.

However, the early Purley bowling was quick and good. When James was second out with the score on 22 in the ninth over it triggered our own collapse as the score became 38-7 in the fifteenth over and there was a tense finish in the offing. In many ways it was a typical T&T run chase, never behind the rate but always in danger of being bowled out.

However, there was a sting in the tail of the T&T batting in the form of Michael at no. 9. He joined Andrew at the crease and was able to find the boundary on a couple of occasions to ease the pressure. Good running between the wickets meant that we finally got across the winning line with one ball of the penultimate over remaining.
