2010 Theale and Tilehurst Youth Awards
BACK
Report by Brian
The Youth Presentation evening took place on
Friday 13th
August at the Crown PH in Theale. The
evening was preceded by the u11/13 dads vs. lads’ game.
Perhaps with the date in mind it wasn’t too
surprising that the afternoon saw monsoon like conditions and as it was
we were
only just able to play a soft ball game on the outfield.
The game went to the last ball with a close
win for the dads.
After a
season where they had shown much improvement the u11 award winners are:
Batting:
Tom Wheeler
Bowling:
George Coker
Player’s Player: Archie
Wheeler
Thanks to Nigel Halliday for all his time and
efforts in
helping to run the u11s this season.
The u13s
also improved considerably as the season went on and by the end of the
season
were winning matches on a regular basis.
The u13 award winners are:
Batting:
Alex Bancroft
Bowling:
Joe Cunningham
Player’s Player: Jake
Moreland
Thanks to Lorraine Colam for all her time and
effort in
helping to run the u13s this season.
The u15s had
a very short season but were very strong when they did play. The u15 award winners are:
Batting:
Charlie Cooke
Bowling:
Luke Adams
Player’s Player:
Michael Holder
The u17
season was still in progress when the presentations took place so the
only
award presented on the evening was the Player’s Player of the Year;
subsequently the other winners have become known. The
u17 award winners are:
Batting:
Ben Wicks
Bowling:
Bobby Rees
Player’s Player: Ben
Wicks
The final award of the evening was the James
Manning Youth
Club Person of the Year award. As we had
the winner of the youth category of the Berkshire “Outstanding Service
to
Cricket Award” it was a relatively straightforward decision to present
to the
award to James White. James was not only
a regular helper at the u11/13 indoor practise sessions but has also
helped out
with ground work amongst many other hours of volunteering.
Not only does he retain his club award but he
will also get to attend a lunch at Lord’s to receive his county award
and to
see who the national winners of the awards are.
The evening was concluded with a quiz that was won
by the
imaginatively named Bataman and Robben; congratulations to them and
thanks to
Megan Jenkins for preparing the quiz.
A final word of thanks to all the other parents
and others
that helped in running the youth section this season; at the risk of
missing
someone thanks to Bob Williams, Phil Jenkins, James White, Paul Osborn,
Sally
Hills, James Codd and Alan Why.
So ends another youth season; before we know it
we’ll be
back for the indoor practise sessions.
