Theale & Tilehurst Friendly  XI vs Holyport Friendly XI

17th April 2011

Report by Fingers.

Our first Sunday game of the season and our traditional start against Holyport. It was also as seems to be traditional a home win; as I’d driven three junctions on the M4 to get to the game that was bad news.

I’m not sure who won the toss but Alan led us in to the field as he started his first game captaining a T&T side. Doc opened the bowling and having stoically ignored every pre season practise session inevitably dropped straight on to a metronomic line and length. Aman also started well and economically.

On a pitch that generally stayed low the first wicket was an lbw for Doc that hit Price just above the boot lace. Taylor followed not long after as Aman took a good catch at a deepish cover.

However, from the off Morgan was timing the ball beautifully belying the time of year and the conditions. Despite others struggling and wickets falling relatively frequently Morgan was able to keep the score moving and take advantage of any loose bowling.

Morgan was dropped on 40 and that proved crucial to the outcome of the game as Holyport made it to just over 200 when 160 would probably have been a par score.

James went early in the T&T reply but Hammad and Meady seemed to be building a good platform for the T&T reply. However, when Meady went caught behind to make the score 51-2 a slowing of the scoring rate and a steady fall of wickets left us a long way behind.

At 95-7 we were out of the game but there was still time for some typical late order hitting from Doc and making it past 150 at least gave the scoreboard a look of respectability.
