We won the toss and elected to bat. Raj and Meady started steadily and with about 30 off the first 10 there had been few chances on what looked to be a good surface to bat on. Raj started to open up and the runs flowed against the change bowlers. When we reached 80 odd Raj managed to get out to a long hop from the young off spinner. Ben departed LBW before Agers and Meady started to push the score along. Most bowlers were finding it difficult and runs were flowing until Yateley 5th change leg spinner suddenly tied the two well set batsmen in knots. Aygzz departed falling to the leg spinner and Meady retired on 101 after being dropped on 99!  After a short rest on the boundary Meady declared at 244-4 in 45 overs. A good batting performance with Meady accelerating from 10 runs off 50 balls to 101 off 133.

We opened with the old ball and took an early wicket with a fine catch from Ian off a ball initially incorrectly called no-ball for being over waist height (see law 42.6b). The new ball and Mikey made the next breakthrough with an excellent slower ball. Ram knocked out two more of the middle order and then Scott got rid of the dangerous number 3 with an excellent stop and throw for a run-out. However the number 5 and 7 were scoring more than quick enough to win the game. The fall of the number 7 to the returning Rags gave us hope but when the number 5 took a liking to Scott in one over it looked like we’d be second best. But then came the decisive moment with Mikey taking an excellent catch over his head at long on to dismiss the number 5. Rog came on for the Teapotting Rags and he and Fingers took the last two wickets for the win.

So why did we win. Meady’s ton – Maybe? Scotts runout – Maybe? Rams wickets – Maybe? Well actually catches win matches and Mikey’s certainly did!
