Theale & Tilehurst 3rd  XI vs Wokingham O & A XI

21st May 2011

Douai Abbey: The Home of the Brave

Sons of Douai, I am William Wallace, (But William Wallace is seven feet tall) so I have heard, kills men by the hundreds and if he were here he would consume them with fire from his eyes and what not.  Okay my names not William but I am Arsalan Ahmed (I destroy bowling line ups by the half a dozen and in between that I write the third XI match reports and don’t you forget that… jack!! Even when I’m not there.

When I checked to hear what happened today with help from the scorecard below and a telephone call with Indy, I can tell you what I supposedly saw. I saw eleven of my fellow clubmen still fighting on in defiance of the Wokingham Oaks and Acorns (tyranny).  With our old friend Pete Moore also in attendance, we appreciate your support. With half an hour to the start of play, one of our comrades dropped out and at about half an hours’ notice it was John Morris who left behind his lawn mowing activities in his back garden at the call of duty. So I ask of the rest of you where is thy salute to John?? Mr Morris for presenting yourself on the battlefield on behalf of everyone - I give you thanks.
William Wallace
It was the new opening pair of Lakiesh and Rog who stepped up to open the batting and lead the charge with a 62 run partnership, with Roger piling on the runs two weeks in a row, we applaud him for his 41 which seems to be his jinxed number this season (having been out 3 times on that score already this year!). There were many who contributed. It was Imran who fired in a short sharp 21 before Robbo weighed in with a confident 38. Unfortunately Alan only got 5 this week but I have no doubt he will fix that starting next week. Indy and young Andy Shotter put on a steady partnership of 56 for the 6th wicket, both batting well, with Andy playing a very mature innings and supporting Indy in the process. While most of us didn’t come here to fight for them Jordan took mercy on them and got a duck but even then it was a false sence of comradeship as he returned later in the game with the ball. John went for 11, Rob went for 1 and Tim held on with an unbeaten 8.

Tea
We were all out for 214 and went till the last man. It was Indy’s turn to do his maiden tea for the club and unfortunately I missed it but from what I heard it was a great tea!

T and T took the field as free men and free men they are but controversy struck. Indy bowled a high full toss and received an official warning and sparked a great row in the middle over the definition of no balls/beamers. I am sure Rog would trade all his days from this day to that when he could return to that discussion and tell those umpires the MCC definition but unfortunately no one had a hard copy present so the game went on. After last week, Jordan got his just rewards with a wicket as he joined the ever reliable Robbo and Rog and the vice skipper Imran who all picked up two. The little rocket propeller Robby Why should also be commended for his two wickets. With that the third win of the season was secured.

25 Points in the bag and no fireballs or lightening were needed. But there was one natural phenomenon that did stricken. I was at the epicentre in Yateley where one Mark Mason sent shock waves across the Berkshire region.  The boys at Douai say they heard a huge ‘’snick, clang, ahhhh’’ roughly around the time Rags dropped a man on 10 runs in the Seconds game, who went on to get a hundred. While the drop was evident for all, to see the aftershocks have now been confirmed but all is well that ends well and Tim Beck and John Morris had their own collision under a dropped catch but no such aftershocks were felt  so didn’t matter in the end.

From now until the end of the season you have your freedom,,, but what will you do with that freedom?/ Will you fight?? For just one chance, to come back here and tell our rivals at the end of the season that they may take our wickets (lives), but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM ~(unbeaten streak 3 out of 3)!

Sincerely Yours
William Wallace (A Ahmed, thanks to Indy for his help and Rog for his dig at Rags!)
