Theale & Tilehurst 2nd XI vs Teddington Town 2nd XI

After being inserted we opened with Aygzz and Meady against 8 players. One of their cars had been caught up in traffic near Bracknell. Soon they were up to full strength and we lost 3 early wickets. Aygzz was out when he wasn't ready - he looked up as the ball was bowled and didn't even have time to back out. Mikey and Micky continued their excellent form and good record batting together taking us from 35-3 to 96-4. It was the introduction of spin that got the break through - Mikey top edging a sweep after taking 10 from the over. Barry soon followed plumb LBW to the same bowler. The lower order were able to move us towards a competitive total but two run outs didn't help our cause. Micky was dismissed after another very good innings trying to score off their nagging opening bowler who completed a 20 over marathon spell. Brian managed to leading edge a full toss to the keeper! When we lost our last wicket we knew we were short of runs but also knew that the opposition hadn't chased high totals and good bowling could get us back in the game.

Doc and Ram opened the bowling to good effect and both opening batsman were dismissed reasonably cheaply. The scoring rate was kept under control but scoreboard pressure was always going to be hard to build up with a modest total. The change bowling struggled to keep up the pressure and runs flowed from any poor ball on a lightning fast outfield. They ran out winners by 5 wickets with 15 overs to spare. Highlights from the bowling were Brian's first ball, a high full toss, being high straight to Aygzz at deep mid-wicket for a catch. And Mikey bowling the fastest ball of the season (so far) and nearly decapitating Dougie with the sudden change-up. And to re-iterate Ram and Doc were excellent with most of the runs coming from nicks past the slip cordon.

Overall very disappointing to lose to such a nice team! This game was played in a very good spirit. Our problems were down to wasting wickets on a day and pitch that required a score of at least 225.
