Theale & Tilehurst 1st  XI vs Cove 3rd XI

13rd August 2011

Report by Ash.

Game of numbers

Cricket is a funny game and I can’t explain the uncertainty of it but the last game against Cove 3 did explain to some extend. Whole game was swinging from one side to another.

As this was an early start we all arrived at ground an hour before the start and as usual every one rushed to square looking and talking about their respective perception about it. Just to remind you all we have few pitch expert in first team who are rarely wrong and Jamil is one of them one he declared this is not a “Spin” Track.

Also as usual we started with the game “Who turns up late today? “any guesses …No it was not Sunny or me or Lemm but CGC.

Lesson learned don’t enjoy your drink night before the game even if you are promoted. BTW congratulations to CGC for getting promoted (James Codd: Sponsorship form should be on the way  )

Day started quite bright as I could see every one was pumped up. We did a very good warm up and some sharp catching practice.
After winning the toss (?) Wiggi decided to bat first to capture max 25 points. James and Sunny started really well and it looked we might be scoring big today. James was looking in great shape from last game and hit boundary of the first ball of the over.

After a quick and great start came Wiggi and his first scoring shot was boundary as well. 2 wickets in Succession did not stop T&T from scoring freely. Ash and Sunny batted freely and scored quick runs. Sunny scored a very entertaining and thrilling 63 before being clean bowled by an in-swinging delivery.

Ash was caught and bowled by Mini ‘H’(so not gutted)

Jamil and harry also looked comfortable against the OKish bowling line  up of Cove 3.

At one stage we were looking to score 300 in 35 over and were thinking of declaring but quick wickets in succession delayed our declaration by 5 over’s and with a score of 269 of 40 over's.

We batted really well and scored 269 of 40 over’s. (Great declaration in my books because we were keen to win)

We started with Spin twins of the T&T and were quite unlucky not a get any breakthrough in the early stages of the innings. In came new ball and wickets.

Steve aka 13 and CGC aka 57 bowled some good lines and finally broke partnership.

CGC was putting pressure at 1 end and Steve was taking wickets at the other end. It was very good combination of attacking bowling displayed by fast bowlers of T&T.

Cove’s Captain on the other hand was playing his natural game of hitting and missing.

Saying that he batted really well and scored 100 before getting out to Steve caught CGC and that was the turning point.

At one stage T&T looked very confident and we has 7 fielders attacking the batsmen. But situation changed as the game went on and Cove at one stage needed 60 runs of last 11 over’s with 5 wickets in Hand. It was good sea-saw game with every over bringing a new twist in the story.
But as usual T&T stuck up and won the game by 29 run with Ash cleaning up in the end.

It was great team effort with batsmen scoring runs and Bowlers picking up wickets when needed.
